The Psychology of Motivation

Listen in app
What if I told you that you are able to work on something in such a way that you are unstoppable? That's right, when you get into a certain mental and emotional state, it seems like all you can do is produce a lot of your best material. It doesn't matter what's going on around you.

It doesn't matter if you woke up on the wrong foot. It doesn't matter if the people around you are freaking out. You're still able to produce a lot of stuff, take care of your best work and feel good about it. Does that sound crazy to you?

This is called your flow state. The good news is that everyone has one. It can take different forms. It definitely takes place at different times. It can be triggered by many things. After all, we are different people, from different walks of life, with our own experiences. These differences add up. However, one of the things we have in common is the state of flow.

This is where things are ridiculously easy. You produce a lot more and you can reach a really high level of quality. It's a time when you reach peak performance. Everybody is capable of doing it.

The problem is that, for most of us, we stumble into our flow state. It's kind of like walking down the road and hearing a rumble up ahead. It starts raining and suddenly you're struck by lightning. Well, how often does that happen. Unfortunately, in the case of flow states, it's not often enough.

The key to triggering this state is motivation. Many people believe that as long as they focus on their flow state or think about it or turn the idea over in their head, it will somehow overcome them. It doesn't work that way. You're missing a key ingredient. You're missing the motivation.
