In the desolate forest of Averoigne, resides Anselme, a young romantic who became a recluse after being rejected by his beloved Dorothée. After 13 months of solitude, Anselme stumbles upon a beautiful woman bathing in a forest pond, accompanied by a massive wolf. She is Séphora, an enchantress, who invites him to her realm—Sylaire, “a land lying beyond time and space.” Anselme becomes her lover and dwells with her in Sylaire. However, the wolf, revealed to be Malachie du Marais, Séphora’s former lover, warns Anselme that Séphora is an ancient lamia who feeds on the life force of young men. Séphora gives Anselme a magical sword and a glass vial, which he must exchange with Malachie to cure him of lycanthropy. When Dorothée appears in Sylaire, Anselme confronts the truth of his feelings and must face the frenzied Malachie in wolf form. Will Anselme withstand the test of love, magic, and betrayal?
