Kat Goss

Kat Goss is a South African author who writes gothic fiction and psychological thrillers. She is known for Dysphoria (2023), The Client (2025), and Grace and the Wolf (2025). Her book, The Client, was a finalist in the 2025 Readers’ Favourite book award contest.

Kat Goss was born in the village of Stanford, South Africa. Her early years shaped her interest in the dark and obscure, and she has said that the hidden parts of human nature held her attention from a young age. Before her career as a novelist, she worked as a ghostwriter. This period gave her long experience with shaping other people’s stories and refining her craft.

Her interest in eerie places and unsaid feelings influenced her move into fiction. She often explored abandoned buildings and quiet towns in search of ideas. She said, “If you’re into vampires, I have good news. If you’re into psychological thrillers, the good news keeps coming.” Her outlook on the human condition shaped much of her work.

Kat Goss once asked, “What are the circumstances that can change something we might previously have refused into something we can accept? That is the journey I try to create for a reader.”

Her first novel, Dysphoria (2023), drew on Gothic themes to depict a long life marked by loss and renewal. She then turned to the thriller genre with The Client (2025), which followed an editor caught in a growing crisis. The book reached the finals in the 2025 Readers’ Favourite contest.

She continued this direction with Grace and The Wolf (2025), which presented a tale of trust and uncertainty in a harsh landscape.

Kat Goss lives in Stanford with her wife and several animals.
