The troll wipes its eyes. “We trolls can change shape. Into a changeling.”

    “A what?”

    “A changeling.”

“What the heck is that?” Ingrid asks.

“When we borrow a human child, we exchange it for a troll child. A troll child magically transformed to look exactly like the human child. And that’s a changeling.”

    “Aha,” Ingrid says.

“But if the changeling is revealed to be a troll, it turns back into a troll child. And that’s what happened to me.”

“So you’re saying your mom and dad kidnapped Dagmar?”

The troll looks quite sad. “We didn’t mean to hurt her.”

    They both fall silent.

“Please come with me,” the troll says. “You and Dagmar can leave whenever you want. But tonight we’re having a party. I promise you’ll have fun. And you might just change your mind about us trolls.”

    Ingrid thinks.

A party. That does sound good. And what’s that sound in the distance? Is that … music?

Now she hears both a violin and an accordion.

“Maybe,” Ingrid replies. She’s tempted. And she does after all have to go and get Dagmar.

The troll smiles. “My name is Kraka,” she says. “And what you can hear is the sound of my family

Dad has to stay behind to help her. It’s up to Ingrid to save Dagmar now, but she’s getting tired. That troll runs very fast.

The forest ends and a wheat field appears.

Ingrid spots the troll in the moonlight. She’s running directly towards a hill.

The hill looks like … is that a troll hill?

On the top of the hill is a big stone. Suddenly, it levitates and hovers in the air. The troll scurries toward the stone. And just like that, she’s gone!

Ingrid catches a glimpse of her running into a dark tunnel. It leads down into the hill. She follows her in there. In that instant, the stone comes crashing down. It closes the entrance behind Ingrid.

partying. Nobody parties like a troll.”

Ingrid looks at Kraka. She gives in.

A troll party! Who would want to miss that?

“Come on,” Kraka says and takes Ingrid’s hand.

She leads her through the long tunnel. The music gets louder and louder. So does the sound of crude, laughing voices.

    How exciting. Dangerously exciting

    A Party

At the end of the tunnel, they arrive at a hall full of trolls. Trolls partying!

    “Wow!” Ingrid exclaims.

There are tables and tables full of trolls. They eat with their bare hands and drink from the biggest mugs Ingrid has ever seen.

The trolls dance around a big bonfire in the middle of the hall. The musicians are on a stage made of tree roots. They play and sing at full blast.

Now they’re starting a new song.

“Come on!” Kraka says and drags Ingrid onto the dance floor. “I love this one! The Troll Polka!”

“Wait, where’s Dagmar?” Ingrid scans the room.

“Right there,” Kraka says and points.

Ingrid spots Dagmar. She’s laughing and dancing around the bonfire. She seems to be doing just fine.

“Come on. Dance!” Kraka says happily.

Kraka is very strong and swings Ingrid around. She squeals with joy.

“Ingrid!” a voice says. It’s Dagmar. She runs over to Ingrid.

“Dagmar!” Ingrid yells happily and gives her a giant hug.
